Kathleen Adams of Fusicology interviews Per Wickstrom of Best Drug Rehabilitation to talk about his company, his motivation for starting a rehabilitation center, and how he overcame his past struggles.

Video transcription below:

Per: Hi Fusicology. My name is Per; I’m with Best Drug Rehabilitation.

Kathleen: Okay Great!

Per: And you are?

Kathleen: I’m Kathleen.

Per: Hi Kathleen.

Kathleen: So, tell me a little bit about yourself and about Best Drug Rehab.

Per: Well, what happened was, when I was a young man, I actually had my own struggles with addiction. And I decided to change what was going on in my life, so I made that change and I looked at the area that we live in, and I looked at my friends and my relatives, and I found out, you know 30 to 40% of the people I knew were on some kind of a substance to get by in life. And that’s not really a good holistic viewpoint to live life by ‘cause life is fun. If you eat right, you still can play hard and you don’t have to use a drug to afford to live it. So I decided to help change it, and that’s why I formed Best Drug Rehabilitation.

Kathleen: So, tell me about your program and about your facility.

Per: Well, what we wanted to do, Kathleen, is we wanted to take more of a holistic approach. You know more and more people give drugs to come off drugs instead of like, going maybe there’s an alternative. You know, like a lot of people are eating organic now. You know, they don’t smoke cigarettes…there’s a big one! People, actually cigarettes have cut down in the last 20 years when they were on the upswing. So I decided to open a facility that had a more holistic viewpoint to treatment. So, let’s not treat the symptom of addiction with a drug. Let’s treat the symptom of addiction by finding out what’s going on with underlying issues, and actually getting the person off of all drugs, and using vitamin, mineral, and amino acid therapies, and you know, acupuncture and things like that; and then, of course, great counseling, you know, so you can get honest and straight.

Kathleen: So, tell me about your location.

Per: Well, we actually have five locations.

Kathleen: Okay

Per: We actually are in, we’re located in, our main center is Manistee, Michigan. We also have one in…Everyone’s heard of Grand Rapids. We have one in Grand Rapids that’s just opening right now. We have one in Battle Creek, and that one’s on a private lake.

Kathleen: Wow!

Per: That’s a really nice facility, and we’ve opened up a holistic detox too where we use the medical western doctors with more of the eastern philosophies to get people off of all the medications they take. So, if somebody is on, you know, a sleep aide and they can’t get off of it, they can come and see us and we can get them off of it, detox them off it. Let’s say, if they aren’t addicted, per say they don’t have an addiction, but they’re still addicted to the painkiller or the sleep aide. And you know we use things like Dr. Price’s sleep aides to help us sleep, and we have massage therapy we use… This is Prologel; it actually takes, we talked about a little about pain. It takes away pain to help the person so they don’t have a necessity to want to do the drugs again. So we use the holistic, get them off the drugs. And then we just bought a facility; everybody’s heard of Notre Dame University. We just bought a facility in South Bend, Indiana, so we’re all Notre Dame fans now.

Kathleen: That’s great! That’s great! So how, what is the success rate?

Per: Well, success rates are kinda hard to follow because the fact is, if you’re gonna get a real real 100% success rate, you would actually have to go to the individual’s house and have to do a hair test on the individual to get actually the truth. We do a year follow-up; it’s called “a year of aftercare” included in the program. We follow up with the parents, the spouses, the sons, the daughters, the brothers, the sisters, and of course, the individual that wants to come into treatment. And we run about anywhere from a 64 to a 72% success with the program. But again, that’s only one year. And you know you’re kinda on the phone and you know if something goes on and your brother knew you were doing something wrong, he would tell us; but still, I’m not at your house. I’m not drug testing you there so that’s why success rates are really hard to say, “Oh we have 100% or 90% or 80%.” It’s really hard to justify, so you know if you’re above 50, you’re great in this industry.

Kathleen: And what about your financing options for treatment?

Per: Well, you know the biggest problem people have nowadays, well with the economy and with jobs and all that other good stuff, is actually the expenditure to help their loved one. We offer financing, of course based on credit, you know like buying a car, but we also take all insurance policies.

Kathleen: Oh, that’s great!

Per: Yeah, so if you have like Blue-Cross Blue-Shield from Aetna, you know you can get in next to nothing to get in to find some help for your loved one.

Kathleen: That’s great! That’s great!

Per: Yeah, it actually works out pretty good.

Kathleen: So, thanks so much for speaking with me today, and I look forward to following your company and seeing everyone’s success stories online, and also hope we will be helping our audience at Fusicology as well; so, Fusicology, definitely check it out.

Per: Yep, I sure appreciate your time, and if anybody needs help or wants help, remember just ask for it, cause that’s the quickest way to get it handled.

I stumbled across this video today and I can honestly say first hand that I know someone who went to the best drug rehabilitation program and it was so successful for them. Being able to see the individual behind the thinking of this center is unbelievable. I can sense in his voice how proud of his programs he is and that is great to see. The individual I know of that went to this center I had known for a long time and it was a long road trying to convince him to go. But once he agreed we knew that this was the place for him. They have so many different approaches to getting someone the help that they need and that is just what we were looking for. How can you push someone into treatment and expect them to be successful with only one form of treatment. Everyone on drugs is going through something different, whether it be a different substance, an underlying issue a social problem so to send someone somewhere where they are all treated the same and equal is not really what we were looking for, We wanted him to get the best help that he could and we wanted to find something that would be able to help him with something that he would connect with. Also wanting to find him somewhere that would not put him on one drug in the aspect of getting him off of another because that is not really solving the problem. We are pleased to say that this program was a success for him and I hope that I can spread the word along in the hopes that someone can read this and eventually say that it helped for their loved one, or someone that they knew as well. Also the fact that they help all individuals even if they do not have insurance is a big plus in my book. There is no worse feeling than dealing with an individual that has a drug problem and is committed to getting help but keeps getting turned away because of resources.

Speaking from my own experience it’s really difficult to find good help when you have a drug problem. There are a lot of programs that make claims and use treatments that in my opinion aren’t the best ones to help users to actually recover. I really liked the Per Wickstrom program Best Drug Rehabilitation because it’s different than any problem out there. It gives people in recovery choices and skills that they can use after treatment. Addiction is a daily struggle but because I got the right help its an uphill battle instead of a downhill one. I recommend this facility.

I’m glad my family member has graduated at BDR. The staff is amazing and friendly, her insurance covered her stay so there was nothing out of pocket. You can tell Mr. Wickstrom has much pride in his work and helping others kick their habit.

  • Rachel

I know BDR via friends. I watched this video and felt it necessary to make a comment.
I have 5 friends that work at two of the centers that Per Wickstrom owns. I must say that they have have pretty good things to say about it. Only one of them works there now as they moved, but if the employees that no longer work there say that it is a workable rehabilitation regimen and that it gets results, I would say it must work. They don’t bad mouth it and say it helps.
I suggest that if any one is looking to get off of substance abuse, they should check BDR out as all I have heard is good things. I also checked them out on youtube and saw some pretty amazing videos from the patients. Some of the videos made me cry a little bit they were very touching and you could see that they were actually get the help they needed to come off of the drug and then also being able to go back to society where they don’t have to use to “be happy”.
Anyways, if you or another need help with drugs or alcohol or whatever else, check BDR out. I hope this comment helps you to go in the right direction.

This facility looks amazing! I am very impressed with their methods and they appear to have a lot of success stories out there. The counseling they offer looks very very helpful! Getting yourself honest and straight is quite important. I also really like that Per Wickstrom is a former addict. He has struggled, just as the people who turn to his facility for support. It’s great to know that someone has experienced the same life experiences as you, when you are going through something as big as this. It’s a huge life change and it’s wonderful to know that there are people at the facility that have successfully come through this struggle and are on the other side of it.

Something about this guy makes me feel like he is trustworthy and honest, maybe the way he gives straight answers to all questions or maybe it’s the fact that he is a recovered addict himself, I don’t know. So much of what he says makes perfect sense – about why the holistic approach is the only way to go, about people taking too much drugs for simple problems (such as sleep issues), and he seems very straightforward when he talks about success rates in this industry. I of course hope nobody around me ever needs services from his facilities, but if they do, I will remember him for sure!

  • Zsofia H

He is a recovered addict so he knows what the person have to go through when he/she having drug addiction. I totally agree with him that you can not get people off of drugs with drugs. I like his idea about using alternatives to get people clean. He did a great job.

This place looks ideal place for anyone who need help with their addiction. The facility is beautiful and neat , the rooms are big and well designed. The important where is facility is is well relaxed which is in my opinion is very useful when battling with addiction. They provide you with well nourished food on a daily basis which is great to keep you healthy. There are a lot of choices too. This place really makes me feel like that its a holiday camp , does not give the idea that is a prison where the addicts are locked up all day between the four walls. The exercise room is just great! Its great that they also make sure the addicts are physically healthy. For me its important that the mind and body is being taken care of next to handling . I love that fact that addicts can choose from different programs that they can decide on things , freedom of choice is very important , so they feel their are cause over they life. I would 100 % recommend this place to anyone as it gives me the impression that is a great place. If you need help please contact with them

They helped save my love one thank you and great job to all the staff members at best drug rehabilitation.

  • Lisa L.

Wow I can’t quiet put my finger on it but there is just something about him that seems so genuine, And I like how he truly understands what addicts go through since he himself is a recovered addict. I completely agree what he said that you can’t give drugs in order to get off drugs. So many different ways to get clean. What an amazing job he is doing at best drug rehabilitation.

  • Emily B.

I love this and I agree you can not put people on drugs in order to get them off of drugs there are so many alternative ways to get them sober. I have a dear friend of mine that had graduated from best drug rehabilitation he had went to others but when he had relapse he was looking for one for a center and came across best drug rehabilitation. He got to choose his own treatment plan which is amazing because not many center will let you do that. He said that the staff members there were great and helped him out and made him feel at home. Its important to get that help you need to get clean and live a healthy life and at best drug rehabilitation that is what they will do. They have great activities as well. If you or a love one are struggling with an addiction like drugs/ alcohol I would recommend you checking out best drug rehabilitation.
